A young woman lived with her father, Her father was a gambling
man, and one day he came home with terrible news. He had lost his
card game, but even worse, he had bet his only daugter.
She was 'won' by the worst man in town. And as they walked down
the path of white and black stones to meet the man, her father
weeped. She comforted her father, and then they met the man on
the path.
She pleaded with him to let her go, but he would not listen. Finally,
he gave in and told her that he would give her the chance to go
home with her father.
'What I will do is this', the old man said, 'I will get two rocks
from this path and put them in a bag. Then, you will choose a rock,
no peeking! If you choose black, you go home with me. You choose
white, you can go home with your father. Agree?'
They all agreed. So he goes to get the rocks....but she sees what
he does. He gets two black rocks and puts them in the bag and then
tells her to choose. She knows she will choose a black rock no
matter what she does. How can she get out of her predicament?
